| The 15mm Super-Elmarit-R ASPH replaces the
previous 15mm f/3.5 Super-Elmar-R. This lens, incorporating
low-dispersion glass, an aspherical lens surface and internal
focussing, made for Leica by Schneider. This lens incorporates
ROM electronic contacts and is not be usable on the Leicaflex,
Leicaflex SL, or Leicaflex SL2 . Like its predecessor,
the Super-Elmarit-R has built-in filters: NDx1, yellow
green YG, orange OR and blue color-correction filter KB12.
This lens demonstrates improved field flatness over
the discontinued Zeiss lens, as well as remarkably low
vignetting and distortion for a lens of this wide an
angle. One weakness of the Zeiss lens is in its flare
control. This Super-Elmarit-R is much better in this
respect.
According to Leica, this lens shows excellent detail
rendition into the corners at normal focus distances
even at full aperture, and only in the close range will
coma and field curvature degrade the image at the widest
apertures. Vignetting results in about a 1.3-stop darkening
of the corners at f/8, and linear distortion, at 2%,
is half that of the predecessor Super-Elmar-R. |
